PROGRAM - Doris Gentry - Republican candidate running for State Assembly in our District 7 against Democrat incumbent Noreen Evans - Not only is she a candidate but she is also one of our NVRWF Members! Doris serves as an advocate for foster parents children through the Foster Parent Association and Foster Care Advocates.  A few days ago I was privileged to attend the 33^rd Advocacy Workshop presented by the California Federation of Republican Women, “the Volunteers in Politics.” It was gratifying to see first hand the enthusiastic high school students from all over California being exposed to reasonable information.

  It is a good time for young people to hear that “Elect me and I’ll fix everything” is a myth; “the government can spend your money better than you can” is another fallacy; and the basic fact: “a government big enough to give you everything is also big enough to take everything you have.” It is helpful to know at a young age that we live in a society that is overtaxed, overregulated, and overly litigious. The Republican philosophy is the best way to stay the course on the ways that work and to apply pressure on the government when action or change is needed.

 We all have to be grateful for the efforts and the dedication of the volunteers who negotiated the students’ release from school for a day, and who met the youngsters in the very early morning hours for the long round trip to Sacramento.

 Can you imagine anything nicer than finding yourself in the company of bright young people of a conservative mindset? They will be the leaders in a future where good decisions are made!
